Changing strings?

First of all, just registered, hi to everyone. I've got a '69 reissue Mustang, not sure what year it was made, bought it about a year ago. I have real trouble replacing the strings with the vintage split tuners. Could someone give a detailed description of how you string a guitar with tuners like that? At this point I'm sure there's something I'm missing, because a simple string change is taking me ages... Thanks in advance.

When I string the guitar I measure the string 2 tuning posts from the tuning post of the string I'm doing then cut it. Insert the end of the cut string into the tuning post and push it in as far as it will go. You dont have to force it, just until it stops. Then bend the string into the groove and tune the string like you normally would. By cutting the string two tuning posts from the string you are doing should give you two or three clean wraps around the tuning post.

Ah man, thank you, you have no idea how much that helps. I feel really stupid now haha.

No problem. I also play bass and that is how all the basses I have had to be strung. So it was an easy change when I bought my Mustang.
