Fender Twin Amp FX Loop?

I just got the Fender Twin 100w all tube amp and it is pretty badass. It has an effects loop but I have never had an amp with one before. It came with a four button footswitch, 1 for the amps distortion, 2 for the effects loop,3 reverb, 4 tremelo. I want to put a distortion pedal into the fx loop so I can turn it on with the 4 button footswitch. My question is do I plug the send input on the amp into the input on the pedal where you would normally plug the guitar into and then plug the output from the pedal into the return input on the amp? Is that the right way?

Distortion pedals are designed to go into the normal input of the amp, it'll sound like crap in the FX loop. FX loops are more designed for stuff like modulation and delay FX, that generally sound clearer put after any amp overdrive.

The way you'd use it would be to plug your guitar into the normal input, run a cable from the FX SEND jack into the input of your pedal(s) then another lead from the pedal(s) output to the amp's FX RETURN jack.

Ok. Thanks. The only other pedal I use is a chorus pedal. I have heard that this effect is commonly used in both the FX loop and out in front. Can anyone tell me the Pros or Cons to running it one way or the other?

By connecting it to the fx loop it is supposed to sound clearer. It is also good because it is going straight into the power-amp section rather than going through the pre-amp section. Since it is going straight into the amp rather than after your guitar,your signal to noise ratio will be lower.

This being said I rarely use FX loops.
