Any Way To Find Your Mustangs Original Color?

I recently won a 1966 Fender Mustang On Ebay, It was stripped and had a clear coat over the natural finish it is beautiful but i was wondering if there was anyway to find the original color to restore it to its former glory.

what colour pickguard has it got?

It has a white pearl pickguard thats turning that old yellowish stained color, so i think that clears it from being Olympic White, Thanks a ton guys for the inputs i gotta check thouse routes incase there is no left over paint is there any other way?

nope. you'll just have to scour over that body, inch by inch to find some clue of it's former color. but, it doesn't really matter, though. It'll always be concidered a refin, so you might as well just choose a color and run with it.

I suggest surf green!

no.

no other real way.

there usually is left over paint unless someone was being real anal about it.

seems to me red ones get stripped more than blue ones.. but thats just me

If i cant find the color i will leave it with its cool natural finish from the 60's might as well this way the price doesnt get more messed up.

i'd say daphne blue cos that looks better. so get it back to daphne blue.

Once a guitar is refin'd, it's value has dropped. You could properly refin the guitar 3 more times and the value isn't going to drop any further.

and if you do a good job of it in a nice colour someone may pay more than if it's natural and they have to do the job themselves.

I just now removed my mustangs pickguard and found the original color was DAKOTA RED I am overjoyed!

Do You know where i can get my hands on some Dakota Red Paint and also how the heck i can get the pickguard back on without chopping the strings, the springs keep getting pulled unto the pickups...Im ticked off but i dont want to hurt my darlin mustang. lol . so anybody know the easiest way to get the guard on and keep those springs in place.

Step one. go to http://www.reranch.com I buy from him, and he's the greatest.

Step two. loosen your strings till they are super loose, then remove the 5 screws holding the trem plate down. Pull it and the bridge off. Done.

Uh...unless you are talking about something else. Please elaborate.

well i removed it with a screw diver on the flat heads but for some reason the previous owner made some of the screws go into allen key things which seems really stupid, he always cut the bridge inside to fit a humbucker but left the single coil in what an idiot. but i gotta loosen those strings but its hard for a 14 year old kid to be doing all this stuff while hes having a drink or two ha. but yeah im gonna order some paint after i or mybe befor i get some 57' Classics for my Sheraton. thanks for your help making my stang start to return back to how the lord intended it to not a idiot in the 60's
