Another pickup question

Hi everybody,

I got a CIJ jaguar and i got (another) pickup-related question. Personally I think the stock pickups are quiet weak in the lead channel and they have horrible microphonic feedback, alltough I allready tried to wax-pot them. So I want to replace them for the lead channel alone, problem is that I really like the rythem channel too, it's pure tonal bliss when I use it with a big muff pi, problem is that it is allready quiet bassy, and that most seymour duncan pickups add even more bass. So wouldn't it become to bassy? I could eventually replace the neck pickup by a vintage SD, and the bridge pickup by a QP SD, but would the sound then be still balanced when I turn both pickups on? I also heard some soundclips on the seymour duncan website but I really couldn't decide which i should choose

A little bit about my musical tastes: I play quiet experimental post-rock, space-rock, shoegazer, indie, (post)punk and sometimes also stoner and surf

So which pickup combination would you guys suggest?

SD vintage neck and quarter pound bridge sound good. I prefer the sound of the quarter pound without the claw but I'm just going through a 250k volume pot and 3-way toggle so it's wired quite differently than a typical Jaguar. I'm currently using Antiquity II's which sound great.

Ok, thanks for the sugestion, I'm reading quiet alot about the Antiquitiy II pickups, are they sonically comparable to the vintage SD's but then better?

I would say that is a fair comparison but have not tried the SD vintage bridge pu. I am almost exclusively a bridge player so you may want to take my opinion with a grain of salt. I did have favorable results with the Antiquity II neck compared to the vintage though.

Antiquity II's are fairly low output, but they have a whole lot of sound and a nice top end due to the aged magnets.

I left my stock CIJ in the neck whilst using a QP in the bridge and the balance was fine. Imo the stock neck pup is good, but the bridge lacks versatality in high gain situations.

The QP is definitely the best replacement bridge pup for versatality, you can retain your traditional Jaguar sound yet rock your amp as well, all without screeching feedback and a noiseless operation.
