Hello and some comments on the Fender Japan Mustang

Hi everyone. First post, just wanted to add something besides saying "hi!". I've been lurking here a bit trying to learn more about the Mustang. Long story short, you guys sold me, so here goes!

Background: I was looking to replace a Jag I sold a while back, as I found I missed Fender

The 65 reissues aren't slab bodies. Mustangs have always had offset contour bodies. Other than that good review.

What is this then if its not a 65 re-issue slab body ?

There are loads of mustang variations made for the Japanese market, these are finding their way all over the world, you find them on ebay now & then. The 65 re-issue with the slab body is quite widely available.

That's weird, I've never seen that before. The one sold at Guitar Center and Musician's Friend is contoured.

Yup, I'm wrong. I guess what I played at Guitar Center was a '69 and the employee was just dumb. I stand corrected.

I have 3 slab body vintage mustangs - they all have the "offset countour body" decal on the headstock, I think that this applies to the offset upper & lower horns, the body contours did not appear until 1969 in the competion stripe mustangs.

Taking all this into account , there are lots of re-issue variations built for the Japanese market & it does get confusing.

Probably got a preference for the slab body, just because the 65 was my first real guitar & I have a soft spot for the older mustangs, saying that I still think the comp mustangs are great looking guitars. I don't find any difference comfort or playing wise.
