Limited edition USA "Thin Skin" Jazzmasters and Ja

I didn't see any mention of these elsewhere on the forum. Has anyone seen these guitars? 62RI USA made Jaguars and Jazzmasters with a ultra thin 100% nitrocellulose lacquer finish just like the originals (previous RI versions used a polyurethane primer) and matching headstocks. The sonic blue JM is absolutely gorgeous!!!

i have heard of them, never played one or seen one in real life but i have seen plenty o pictures.

the american re-issues are 100 laquer. the japs are the poly ones,

the only appeal that i can see with the thin skin is the fact that a light blue guitar would turn green after about a year of me playing it.

I was under the understanding that all US made JM/Jags since the late 60's use a thick polyurethane sealer and then a lacquer color coat, and that the "Thin Skins" used a nitro sealer then the color.... essentially like what you would find on an original 62 and prior.

The reason I bring these up is because I have demo'd several of the new thin skins and they do seem to have "something" overall about them that even my US RI Jaguar didn't have (besides the matching headstock). I also saw first hand one of these finishes that got chipped while shipping (on a Stratocaster) and they really are quite thin.

With there being so few of these produced (less than 100 in each color?... I heard) I think the prices being asked for them seem quite reasonable.

I think having a discolored greenish "Sonic Blue" version would be sweet!

I considered buying one a while back as they seem to be a little cheaper than the standard AVRI's, but i'm pretty sure they dont have matching headstocks. That is something i really want in a Jag or Jazzy if i am paying big bucks.

i had read someting somewhere that someone had tested out the paint on the am re-issues and found that it was a poly type of under coat but it would have to compadible with laquer becuz i know for a fact that a straight poly finish with some laquer clear coat on top does not mix well and often times produces bubbles and weird stuff like that.

when i messed with my avri, i could get the paint under the guard to come off with debounder and it went striaght to the wood in the pup cavity,

if you put debonder on a clear poly it is resistent to it.

UK prices are insane. In the US you will pay about $300 more for them than a standard US Vintage RI... About $1500 USD or so. They all have matching headstocks and come in Sonic Blue, Seafoam Green, Fiesta Red and Shoreline Gold.

They are a custom run created and sold exclusively by only 3 Fender dealers in the world... Music Machine Guitars, Dave's Guitars, and Wildwood Guitars. My guess is collectors will snatch them up before I ever scratch up the money to get one. A US made Sonic Blue body/headstock JM has been one of my dream guitars for years.
