It's a pretty sweet looking guitar. A bit pricey but I guess most of the "Inspired by" gibson series are.

They are ok. I much rather prefer the classic gibson headstock over the firebird one.

Kinda pricey, but again its a gibson.

Pretty amazing to me. I do wish they would just call it a Trini Lopez reissue, basically because thats what it is. Though he's fairly decent, i don't think its fair they should put Dave's name on it since it was originally Trini Lopez's model.

I think most people will see the price and think... meh. But this whole "Inspired by" series that Gibson has been doing is great at promoting the brand even if people don't buy the particular "Inspired by" model.

It just seems like Fender is in the midst of some "unhip" period. }>

Gibson don't care about guitarists anymore. They're after high-flying businessmen who sold their soul to be successful but are ultimately unhappy, and so Gibson gives them something to spend their cash on in an attempt to recapture something of their youth and vitality.

Seriously, though. Gibson prices reflect the market they try to appeal to; middle-aged businessmen.

As I've said before, you're paying for a name with Gibson. I know that's the case with any brand you buy into, but does the Gibson name really command that much cash? Gibsons are good, but not nearly worth the price charged. Think about it: A

It's hard to see how Gibson can justify some of their prices especially when FMIC have done such an excellent job on the Gretsch range and are competing directly with Epiphone on price. There's also so many other brands producing quality guitars at a fraction of the cost of a Gibo.

I agree most Gibson prices are bordering on daylight robbery, they cannot justify their prices for a slab of wood and some hardware with primitive electronics.

But they are getting better at this game. You can pick up new LP Junior/specials for around 600 quid, faded S.G. range for around 400 quid and Melody Makers for 300 quid.

All cheaper than a US Strat i do believe? also all three guitars despite being budget models, are also pro like instruments.

but the lp junior has a single pup, a warp around bridge, a slab body and a bolt on neck( i believe) look at a us fender, you have all those features in the bridge and then some.

i said one time that gibson uses laminent on thier archtops and it really upset somebody, but itstru, they use pressed laminent wood on ALL of thier archtops/semi holows, i know for a fact the the bb king is a pressed laminent and it commands about 4 grand or right around there, you can have an experienced luthier make you one for that much and it will be out of truly qtr sawn tone wood.

i got to work on a firebird when i was in st. lious and the binding on it was TRASHY!!! i could have done better on my first try.

but it's not just Gibson who use laminated wood, I've got 5 archtops by different manufacturers including Gibson and Gretsch and they all have laminated tops. I'm no 'woodspert' but there must be a good reason for using it other than it being cheaper to manufacture?

No rob, your thinking of epiphone. The Gibbo has two soapbars, TOM, glued neck, solid mahogany...

I've played US Strats and the Junior wipes the floor with them.

Its all a matter of choice though, some people love S.G.'s and Juniors some dont. The Melody Maker is the most budget guitar and that also has a glued neck etc. but dont let the price fool you... check harmony central user reviews.

When Gibson cut corners it is USUALLY the frills ie. binding, inlays, quilted tops, etc. not the essentials, i'll give them that credit.
