No rob, your thinking of epiphone. The Gibbo has two soapbars, TOM, glued neck, solid mahogany...

I've played US Strats and the Junior wipes the floor with them.
Its all a matter of choice though, some people love S.G.'s and Juniors some dont. The Melody Maker is the most budget guitar and that also has a glued neck etc. but dont let the price fool you... check harmony central user reviews.
When Gibson cut corners it is USUALLY the frills ie. binding, inlays, quilted tops, etc. not the essentials, i'll give them that credit.
