Does shielding the routes with copper stuff do much to the tone or anything?

Whats the purpose?

no, it just helps to squash the hum that single coils emit, but only when properly grounded.

no, you will also have a single-coil in the neck position, so it won't be uselss. PM me for a phone number and I'll talk to you about it...it's quite simple.

i dont plan on using the neck pup much though... so it really wouldnt really be needed... if i cant get an answer ill call tomorrow

ok...no single coil, just a humbucker, then shielding would be useless.

i sheilded the control rout and the pup routes in my g&l, my jag-stang and my bass and i think it did wonders. the copper shielding is great for keeping outside noises from getting in, like tvs, cell phones, anything like that.

I use that stuff all the time. Just don't thinking that you can overlap that stuff and it'll make a connection. You'll need to do some soldering.

i used the sticky stuff, i ended up doing a bit of trick work by doing it like shingles and folding the sides a lil bit, soldering would probly be a bit quicker and easier tho.

I shielded everything on my JS and stangs.I used the copper tape and soldered every seam and grounded everything together.Take no chances.I go overboard sometimes.

Hi guys,

first of all I'd like to apologize for my bad english, I'm french!

Well, I'm trying to shield my mustang (reissue 69), and my problem is I don't know exactly what should be linked to the ground...I mean I have two separated cavities, and I don't know if I have to solder each one to the ground (on the tone control).

Hope those photographs will help you to understand:

run a ground wire from the shielding to a pot.Make sure both pots are grounded together.In the pic you will see a small piece of copper tape to ground the trem unit.I did that instead of running a wire from a pot through the body.Notice the sloppy solder on tape connections.

Do you still have some hum when on single coil or you just have nothing?

No noise now.It really does make a difference.I probably went overboard on the shielding but I was on a roll and the shielding momentum could not be stopped.
