I have a Gibson Melody maker I'm working on currently, it's an 03' model with the single P-90. Well I routed the pickup out for a humbucker at one point in time but ended up putting the P-90 back in.
What I'd like to do is wire up 2 single coils side by side. I'm looking at the Seymour Duncan 1/4" pounder (flat pole) and then a lipstick pickup. I'd have the 1/4" pounder closest to a the bridge.
For controls it'll be 2 volume knobs that'll click on/off so I can blend the pickups together or use one or the other separately. I've yet to decide on how I'm going to wire it though, series or parallel.
Anyways though back to my question. Do you see any problems matching the two pickups I mentioned together? Or with any of the of the idea in general?
My whole thing is I love the jangle and bit of lipsticks but love the fullness and warmth a P90 or the 1/4" pounder gives. I think having the two volumes and the ability to blend the two will really lend it self to a wide tonal variety.
I have a great idea for how I'm going to hide all this under a custom made pickup cover, it'll be by my secret weapon guitar if it works the way I want hah.
