jazzmaster heel vs. stratocaster heel

there was bit of speak on the difference in the jazzmaster neck and the stratocaster neck.

im here to set the record straight, there is a difference, both in the headstock shape, and the heel shape,

these are two templates.

the one with the frets marked is a 62 strat, and the blank one is a 59 jazzmaster.

fist off.

the headstocks. the strat on top, jazzy on bottom.

here are the heels with the jazzy on top

and here is one with the strat on top

and here is where itraced out the two on the same peice of scrap mdf to try and show how the jazzy is more rounded and a bit narrower than the strat.

final conclusion.

the jazzy is a lil bit thinner,not much, maybe only 2 mms altogether, and it is more rounded, but not alot more.

You've got two mystery templates from who knows where and they are different from each other... What exactly makes these templates some sort of reference standard? I can take my 64 Stratocaster and compare the neck width to my Jazzmaster and the Stratocaster neck is much thinner.

Not exactly sure what point you are trying to make.

im trying to say that a jazzmaster heel and a jazzmaster heel are differen;t there was some talk about how they were the same.

i am showing you how they are different, and im pretty sure i labeled which template was which.

I agree with B. You can't rely on the accuracy of those templates. A better example would have been if you had shown us an actual strat neck and an actual Jazzmaster neck. I'm sure the heels are the same.

And come to think of it the headstock isn't even shaped like a Jazzmaster, it's closer to the Jaguar headstock shape.

See how the shape under the logo goes almost concave then round instead of a consistent curve?

I have the feeling we got the same Jazzmaster templates from the same guy. was it guitarbuildingtemplates.com?

I'm pretty sure all his designs are redesigned on a Cad program. I'm skeptical about how accurate his designs are to the original. I think the neck template is completely off.

i know it was some guy in florida.

i know the jazzy pocket meets up with a jazzy pickguard really really well.

and the neck temp and body match pretty well.

the pic you posted is of a transition 65 jazzy, and as i gather the temps are of a 59

i matched the temps up to three squire necks

one is a bullet which is supposed to be a re-creation of a 50s strat

the second is a cyclone that is suposed to be a 59 jazzy neck

and the third is the late 60's large headstock strat style.

this is the cyclone vs. jazzy template, they are pretty similiar except the "scoop" of the under side is a bit steeper with the template.

this is the jazzy template with the late 60's styled squire neck

it was hard to be exact since it is in the midst of being painted but more or less it was not a very good match at all.

i guess i cannot truly come to a conclusion unless i have a period correct jazzmaster neck in front of me.

The squire cyclone headstock is differently proportioned to the Fender Cyclone headstock. The Fender cyclone headstock is almost identical to a Jazzmaster headstock.

I was'nt disagreeing that the Strat headstock is different from a Jazzmaster headstock if you read what I wrote correctly.

It may very well be that the strat heel is different to a Jazzmaster heel. I'm just questioning the accuracy of the Jazzmaster template which I am convinced is not correct.

Until one of us can compare the template to a real Jazzmaster neck then we can keep on speculating.

indeed, do you know how accurate the jap jazzies are compared to the us re-issues vs the vintage stuff?

i have played all three but never been able to take one apart.

music stores don;t like that for some reason.
