i use 11's at the moment and it seems to work best for me
but try everything, till you find what you like
experimenting is fun and leads to new things
if we all used the same strings, guitars, amps.....

There are several iterations of flatwounds......
There are the normal style, and yes they are called "tape wound" strings because the windings on the lower strings resemble tape rather than wire.
Next up are "ground wound" strings, which are roundwound strings with the windings ground flat all the way around. The idea here is to try and retain some of the roundwound characteristic brightness and response while going easy on the fingers.
Then there are "Compound" wound strings, which are basically wound strings covered in the "winding tape" they use for flatwounds. I think it's much like groundwounds in that they are supposed to feel like flatwounds, but sound like steel strings.
