Them shaller copies on the Toronado are ass. Anyone got any suggestions; tone pros, gotoh, grover, sperzel...?

the grovers are more economical yes/no?

Axesrus.co.uk has some pretty decent Wilkinson machineheads in, and they're dead cheap - worth a look, i reckon:

I have Gotohs on my Tele Custom - they & the guitar are about 15 years old & still they turn smoothly, hold the strings well. Best tuners I've had on a guitar - I usually just leave whatever comes on the guitar with Fender as they are not that bad, the ones on my Jazzmaster aren't brilliant.

They do have some nice looking tuners at axesrus, i might snap up a set myself after seeing them.

grovers seem to be about 50

the schallers just under a hundred

May I suggest you also buy my schecter diamond which I installed schaller m-6 gold plated tuners...they go for about 97

it also has seymour duncan jazz II in neck and a pearly gates in the bridge

swap out the parts and re-sell

Wow, it must be a winner. The Artist is quite simply one of the greatest guitars ever..... but the weight is horrendous.

I've not found the Wilkinson tuners to be that great, I've got two sets I'm about to sell off. I prefer Grovers, good VFM and they turn smoothly and stay in tune. Just put a set of Rotamatics with the art deco buttons on an archtop,

Why don't you like them spitfire? I've never tried them but i was going to shell out for a set, would you like to expand on your post?

I don't use locking tuners, too fiddly on stage. The strings I use on archtops are 12s and I found the Wilkinsons were over-stiff to turn on the thicker strings, they also tended to slip out of tune when using the Bigsby. Replaced them with Grovers and problem solved, smooth and stable even when giving the Bigsby some stick. I'm not saying the Wilkinsons are terrible, the ones on the Alden guitars I have do a good enough job with 10s. But if you're looking at an upgrade or a project I'd say spend a little more and get Grovers. Just my opinion though.

I must say the Grovers on my Artist are excellent. It stays in tune from one month to the next.
