lepain' saddle screws!

Soo I've heard osme conflicting things on the JM/Jag saddle screws and their tendancy to vibrate up/out.

It's definetly happening to me. Does anybody here use nail polish or naything similar?

Also, the new Ernie balls I strung it with are coming unraveled at the end, the bridge end, that is. What kinds of strings hold up well?

sorry this topic was so boooooring and probably repetetive, but the search function on this forum licks nuts.

I use thread loc, but a mustang bridge is something you might want to invest in. Just drop it in and forget it!

I know you use crazy tunings. Maybe you should try heavier strings for tuning down to make up for the tension loss.

shadow's right, thicker strings.

also, raise the saddles up until they lock (you may have to replace the intonation screws or hack saw the current ones shorter)

I'm rocking "beefy slinkeys" (54-11) right now, so I think I'm about as heavy as i can go before tendonitus. But thannks for the tips!

having thicker bass strings is a wise choice. i have 11-60 on my jag. it's also better because it makes you take saddles further back, for intonation. thus locking them more that way. i think most rattle outs happen when the grub screw is actually sticking out above the top of the saddle and the saddle itself is almost sitting on the assey. that's what the grub screws are for, raising the saddle up onto two legs. you should have the top of the grub screw threaded at least halfway down into the saddle

Tru dat Rick, I have a American vintage reissue jazzy, I tried a vintage mustang bridge I had, 70's one with out the little domes where the complete bridge height adjustment screw holes are. I know it's vintage cause the saddles has no spacing, reissues do, and though it is vintage there IS a notice in tone. So I stuck with the stock american reissue bridge. Now I did have a problem with the saddle height adj. screws, yes even if they where screwed half way in like Rick is saying, and with larger strings cause the saddle to go back more for the intonation. Didn't help! I didn't want a buzz stop because we all know the great sounds we get from behind the bridge, and Aen I have heard your music I'm sure you like that, and the buzz stop wouldn't work well with heavey strings. So.......I use thread lock (loc?) and it's a safe glue like stuff, easy to apply and breaks off when you adjust its adjusted again. There use to be thread loc at Stewmac.com but I can't find it there anymore. So I got some at home depot.... but all guitar are different when it comes to that. Do what works for ya!

yeh that elevating screw thing sucks...I almost lost one...I cant wait to get a mustang bridge im ordering off ebay...I usually use 11 gauge strings on my Jag...if I use anything lower I think it hinders the sound greatly and makes the bridge suck even more then it already does...and that bridge sucks what in the hell were they thinking
