acoustic to acoustic/electric

I have an yamaha dw-4s acoustic. It's a good ten years old, and in my mind its a great guitar.

The only thing i regret is being a little rough with it (there are two little gashes near each other.

Given that i've already wanted to get a pickup for the acoustic guitar, i was thinking about adding a volume and tone control to cover up those nicks, and also to give it a john lennon look.

How can i make this happen? any recomendations for acoustic pickups that will work for this type of thing?

i think you work through the sound hole, same as an electric... i dunno for sure though

How about drilling holes and such? how can i do this to make sure the finish, or the top, doesn't crack?

also what kinds of pickups can i use? could a get a single coil with a really low output (maybe some recommendations for this??

i personally dont have experience with this type of stuff, wait for robert(OG) or Aug to come on, or PM them, they will be very much help to you. and for pups ive seen people put strat pups on acoustics, dont know how it sounded but its been done

yeah i was kind of thinking at strat pup would be kind of cool.

i'm curious about this too, as I have an old cheap acoustic that would be a nice project (especially now that I bought a Martin)
