Pots pots pots

Hi guys, wanted to start experimenting with pots since I just got a set of curtis novak P-90s for my jazzmaster and feel like tinkering/honing my tone: the rhythm circuit always seemed dark before but now its almost unusable and the lead circuit is a bit too brash now, if you get me...would changing pots affect all this? What do vintage Jazzers have pot-wise (I know CIJ guitars arnt entirely accurate in that respect) and what would be best to try with hotter pickups like these?

If the Jazzy is same as the Jag then the rythym circuit has a capacitor to cut treble in it. If you remove this it should brighten the sound up, although it would make it no different to selecting the neck pup on the lead circuit. I once considered using a passive boost like a 'black ice' diode instead as it seems a waste to have an extra circuit that does nothing different.
