Hey guys,

Just got me a 1997 Fender Jaguar CIJ. Great guitar. I've always wanted one! I grew up a big fan of Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins... These days I'm more into jazz and jazz/rock. So I guess I should start thinking about a few basic upgrades right? Figure the stock pickups could use swapping...read a lot about the Seymour Duncan JB Jrs and the SJAG-2's. I generally like a warm, thick tone but I'm don't mind experimenting sonically. My main guitar is a Tele with a PRS Santana Humbucker in the neck and a Lindy Fralin Blues in the bridge.

So any advice would be much appreciated!

Well done on the Jag.

Guitarpartsresource are generally as fast as lightning.

You probably will have to upgrade the bridge pup at least. To retain the Jaguar look by keeping the cover and 'claw' your best option would be to go for a direct replacement. Seymour Duncan have about four different models, the Quarter Pound (for Jaguar) being about the warmest sounding imo.

If you do go for a JB Jr or hotrails be carefull not to get the Strat type with the triangular baseplate as the claw wont fit. The other problem is the cover can look odd without the pole pieces matching the holes.

Question about the electronics on this thing...

So the rhythm circuit uses the neck pickup and takes some of the highs out??

Is that the difference between setting it on the lead circuit and using only the neck pickup??

Finally got some pix of my Jag...

It plays really nice, I'm super happy I picked it up. Played 2 gigs with it and it sounded and played just great. I plan to swap out the pickups but I the stock neck pickup isn't bad. My only issue is that the rhythm circuit is so much louder than the lead, it's hard to use both circuits on stage...have to keep adjusting volume.

Have a few recordings on my band's site too. Playing it out of a Blues Jr with a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 and a little delay at times.
