new CIJ vs less-new CIJ

HI, all

After lurking for a while, i've finally joined the fray. I'm about to get a 3TS or YWH CIJstang as a little brother to my '76 and have a couple of questions: you see used 90's-early-200's RIstangs on Ebay but they cost around what I can get a new one from Ishibashi for. Is there any difference in build quality? Anything else that would justify their cost over a new one? Anything to be wary about with new ones?

Well it depends which you mean; Fender Japan have fairly recently released the MG65 Mustang reissue which differs from the older '69 reissue by having an uncontoured body, white plastic pegged F Tuners and different colour schemes. The new reissues are more expensive 'cause they're new I imagine, and prettier in my opinion. Apparently they're a bit nicer to play as well, but that's patently down to personal preference. I don't think the pickups are different, and if they are they won't be dramatically so. Best thing is to play them both, I have a '69 reissue and I really like it, but would love to get my hands on a '65 reissue just 'cause I don't really like contours and love white tuners. Also, the build quality won't be too much of an issue 'cause Fender Japan have a very high build quality and control. So yeah, just see'f you can try them out, and if not, just choose which one you like the look of best! D:

from what i understand the 65 re-issues are amazing compared to the 69's

they are copper shielding for all the grounding, i think it even has cloth wire.

like stated before, its uncountroued, with white buttons.

the one person that i know has a few re-issues and a newer 65 says that its definitly worth the extra bit of cash for one.

i could have sworn when rob took his apart and took all the photos it had cloth wiring.

i know that i would love to play one, there was one at a sam ash in indianapolis a few months ago but i opted to play the j-mascis jazzy over the stang, and by the way, i liked it alot, it needed a good setup but besides that it was great! oh and the satin neck is not my style but hey, its still a damn nice geeter.

Ah, now you mention it I think I do remember what the indside of rob's looked like, and it having cloth covered wire.

I wasabout to post a thread on the '69 RI's vs. the '65 RI's... I just got an offer to buy one of two for $515... one's a white MIJ, the other's a surf green CIJ, but they're both '69's. Would it be worth it to get a 65 instead?

The '65 reissues are also made of a different wood than the '69 reissues
