I never wanted to use a buzz stop and I wanted to keep my Jazzmaster and Jag looking vintage so I really looked hard at where the notorious buzzing comes from. Here is what I did (it got rid of all the buzz and improved the playability):
1. Increased the neck angle to get the bridge up higher and increase down force.
2. Put some heat shrink tubing around the pivot posts on the bridge to dampen some vibrations without preventing the trem action from working.
3. Cut some small vinyl tape discs out and stuck em between each saddle so they can't touch each other and buzz.
After doing this and making sure my frets were perfectly level, I found I could run the action really low and the bridge buzzing went away. I had to twiddle with the saddle set screws to make sure they were balnace and one wasn't buzzing but in the end the guitar doesn't buzz at all and becasue of the action and neck angle the playability is sweet.
It took a lot of farting around but it really works on both my jazzy and jag.
Anyone tried similar tricks?...just curious.
