Billy Corgan Sig Strat

According to Fender, Billy Corgan's becoming their latest signature artist. I haven't found any details of it anywhere but this is going to mean they'll be replicating one of the strats he's using on the zeitgeist tour with the hot rails, because there's no way they'd be bringing the strat plus deluxe with the blue/silver/red sensors back around.

Watch the first three minutes of this video for the strat plus, it sounds f*cking amazing!

the should issue his jag instead, another strat is boring as hell, a jaguar with a maple neck and black blocks and bindingis deffinitly more interesting, even to the strat heads.

I wonder if they will actually put red/silver/blue lace sensors in it... Ever since the Clapton model moved to the "noiseless" pickups the only model left with those old style lace sensors is the Buddy Guy.

I doubt they will, that strat plus was a standard guitar, the only way they could make it a Corgan signature model would be to take some paint off it. I would think they'll have an ash strat with some hotrails installed.

Did you watch the video? That strat cuts through the air like a chainsaw.

Thats great news for all Pumpkins fans, esspecially you Mr.Tool. Is he still using that Strat with the grey paint over sunburst? The one from the video. I remember seeing their performance of "Disarm" on one of the MTV music awards. This was years ago, Corgan's mike was too low, which led to a angry performance. By the end he had scremed his guts up, broken strings on his guitar and then taken out the mike stand with the guitar. Very powerful stuff as I was still new to alternative rock. Thats the same guitar.

Fender must of jumped the gun talking about it because they removed the blog post and NAMM video about it.

It's supposedly what he's playing now though. 2 of them, a black one and a white one...

I have/seen a bunch pictures of Corgan using 70's Strat's. I have never played one. But I havent heard good things about the ones with 3 bolt neck joints though. Anyone have one??

He doesn't use the silver painted one that he used for the Mtv performance of disarm anymore, that's also the guitar he used on the mellon collie tour. I personally wouldn't buy a signature guitar, i have had a strat plus since about 2001 or something and i'm totally in love with it, it will always be my main guitar unless i get one of those goth SG's i talked about before, then it'll be 50/50.

That disarm performance must have really pissed him off, his album went skyward super fast, everyone was saying how their wall of sound multi layered songs were the best thing since sliced bread and then that happened in front of their biggest audience. I wouldn't have liked to have been the first face to great him when he left the stage.

Not the greatest quality of video but it's clear what's happening if anyone wants to see how a live performance can go down hill really quickly.

Jesus! Thats exactly how I remember it! I dug Iha's soloing, sounded great. This was the most exciting time.

But shouldn't there have been people at the mixing board that could have fixed his mike volume?? MTV was probably like "oh, its meant to sound that way, its grunge!" Dumb sh*ts!

after the first line i would have dropped the guitar and started singing happy birthday, the bass sounded horrid! as well as the vocals, i think its more the singers fault than the mix.

james was the only one in that band with any real talent(thats my opinion)

i have worked on/played a 79 strat a few times, its junk, absolute junk, its not a 3 bolt tho, its the special 25th anniv. edition. also known as the new squire standard series!

honestly tho. anything 78-79 i can verify is crap, build wise.

lots of shortcuts were taken around that time.

They also did that version of Disarm on channel 4 in England back in the day on a show called "The Word", possibly the best show of all time, anyways, they totally owned that place right then, kickass performance.

Are you really serious Robert or just kidding about Iha being the most talented?

Corgan's a better songwriter, a better guitar player, and a better producer than James Iha. You can tell this by listening to the pumpkins albums or seeing how Iha is now playing third guitar for A Perfect Circle nowadays, and that's only because their songwriter was a guitar tech for the pumpkins!

tool, it was more of a stab of fun at the irony that james is rocking it and the rest of the band is just kinda....... off, when i usually see a preformance and its the otherway around, james is very quiet and still, can;t hear him.

Hey Mr.Tool,

Isn't Corgan's Strat in this video a Japanese '54 Strat reissue with changed pups? Changed to Lace sensors I mean. I swear, it looks like that. I have this old bio on the pumpkins thats filled with pictures. You see the guitar when its new, sunburst, maple neck and black lace sensors. Then its painted grey, has little bat stickers all over it and a large "Honk, if you hate people too" white sticker. The pick guard is colored in with a black marker as well. You can see the sunburst in some damaged parts.

I also have a Guitar World in storage from , '96 I think, Mellon collie period, its a whole Alternative rock issue. Corgan and Iha on the cover. He's holding this Strat upside down, looks the same except it has a changed low E tuner, different from the stock vintage ones.

I remember "The Word" from when I lived in England, came on late Friday nights, that and "Eurotrash" Saucy dirtiness. The word was good, but not as cool as "Later w/ Jools Holland" for music.

I don't know, it might be, but i'm sure it's the older version of the strat plus with the wilkinson nut, they later changed it to a LSR roller nut, that's the one i've got.

If you can post the pic of a clearly visible nut on it i'll tell you.
