trem piece

is it normal for the trem piece on a jag (where the strings go in at the bottom) to be higher on once side than the other? i'd imagine it's wrong as it makes getting the ball of the strings in almost impossible. if there is a problem, is it just a matter of a spring adjustment to correct?

Nope, it's not normal, it should come to a level stopping point somewhere in the mddle where the strings are easy to fit, I wish it were easier to explain in laymans terms, but it's not.

It has something to do with the spring, but not as you are thinking. The Jaguar trem is counter-acted by the tension of the strings, but due to the nature of the design, it tens to push the back "lip" part where the strings attach upward or downward (dependant on the spring), and it can throw the whole thing off-center. All it needs is to be re-centered on the metal "fulcrum" part inside the bridge, and all will be fine. I just put on a trem bar and push the bar toward the pickguard, and the assembly pops into place where it should be. This can be avoided by using the trem-lok when re-stringing.

that pretty much sums it up for me. the 'knife' should be properly pressed against the rounded part of the trem (where the lever is bent)

My trem did that and when I opened it out I found a screw had worked it's way out and lodged between the plates on one side.

so, i think the jackasses who did the work on my jag f@cked it up the first time. when i opened up the inside of the trem mechanism, the screw for the lock was way, way too far in. so much so that, in fact, the lock wouldn't actually lock anything; it would just butt up against spring. so THAT'S fixed.

i also got rid of the new lil screamin demon in favor of an older lil 59, and not only is the tone better, but the pickup claw fits it now. i have no idea what (if any) difference that makes sound-wise, but the axe definitely looks more aesthetically pleasing with both pickups having a claw.

the guitar even intonates now. . . except for the 6th string. if i raise the action, the buzz goes away. if i lower it, the string intonates but with terrible, terrible fret buzz. any ideas? i'm playing with 11 - 49 guage strings, tuning down 1/2 step.
