I, too, need to replace the bridge on my American '62 reissue jaguar and needed some advice.
My problems are: Strings slip out (not so much of a problem anymore after filing it down), there is virtually no sustain, there is a buzzing, and there is a muffling of one of the strings that I can't figure out (that's a secondary problem--I don't know if a new bridge will fix this, but it doesn't matter now so much)
I don't want to replace it with a tune-o-matic because I don't want to have to mess with all of the extra alterations that arise from the bridge not fitting fender necks (tape, etc.), or whatever (unless it's really worth it-is it?)
I thought my best bet would be a Fender Mustang bridge. Any opinions? Does it matter if it's a new one or used one that much? Does the date matter much (because a lot of vintage 1960's ones are being sold on Ebay)? Does it have to an American version to match the specs of my Jaguar, or is Japanese okay?
Also, wouldn't it be easier to just replace the saddles instead of the whole bridge? If I should do that, then should I get American Fender Mustang saddles?
I thought Graph Tech string-saver saddles would be a good idea, but some people say they are made to Japanese specs, so I don't know if they'd fit my guitar. They also make "Tusq" saddles, a man-made ivory material--does anyone recommend that instead?
And if anyone does have a recommendation, where is a good place to get it?
