Hi y'all....I've got a Seymour Duncan JB, I like to install it into my Jag

but.....I never do it by myself before (I want to try to do that)

yes...it's kinda stupid question I'm just want to know how to do that

could anybody tell me about this in step by step (How to change the jaguar pick up)

please help new kid in jag family.....Thanks

It is one of the simplest guitar mods ever!..

1/ Unscrew the existing Jaguar pickup

2/ Loosen or take off the strings

3/ Unscrew the pickguard

4/ Unscrew the three switch plate

5/ Heat up soldering iron, have a cup of tea

6/ The two wires coming from your jag pup one is HOT and goes to the switch point (take note of this point or mark it with a pen), the other wire is a GROUND wire going to the ground point on the plate.

7/ Unsolder these two wires off the switch plate and replace them with the Seymour Duncan (hot and ground were appropriate)

8/Put everything back together.

If you want to reinstall the 'claw', unsolder it from the old pickup and make sure you solder a jumper piece of solder to the ground wire on the new pickup.

The pickup cover is a different matter, i dont think it will fit over the SD pup without cutting the top section of the cover out.

I did't do it yet....just decided

so if don't want to chang the pick up but I wanna get the warm and more sustain like Humbucker

so should I just use Pickup Booster Effects Pedal instead of changing the pick up

like a Seymour Duncan SFX-01 Pickup Booster Effects Pedal does it good for jag what do you think

does anyone used it before .....

if you can try it out with a jag or strat, that will tell you. i have no experience with the pedal.

If your Jag is a CIJ model the stock pickups wont be 'wax potted' which means they suffer with microphonic feedback when using high gain. They are also trebly and 'thin' sounding.

You could warm the sound up using a booster or gain pedal and control the bass frequency with an EQ pedal. If feedback is a problem you could use a 'gate' effect as well. Multi FX usually have all these FX in one box at lower cost so they are ideal, but they can sound unnatural. So..

If you are looking to naturally drive a tube amp with your guitar then the pickup swap is probably the best option.

There are a lot of options for pickup upgrades, seymour duncan (for Jaguar) has good choices. The Quarter pound is a warmer pickup and it also fits in the claw and cover okay.

For what it's worth, that's what I did - SD Quarter Pounds in my CIJ Jag.

I'd been using it a lot with the stock pups for recording - mostly for the neck pup sound which was a bit fantastic. Live, the neck pup sound worked a treat, but I may as well not have had a bridge pup - it was shrill and thin, and squealed #### appallingly at the drop of a hat.

I hesitated going for the SD QPs thinking I may lose the luvvly neck pup sound - in fact I thought of having just a QP at the bridge and leaving the neck stock.

Affordability kinda intervened - a pair from the US turned out a lot less than the same from the UK, so I gave it a try with both.

It's a different guitar. I can still get to those sweet front pup tones, jangle in the middle, and bite and substance at the bridge.

Not shrill. Not thin.

Couldn't recommend 'em more, really.

I'm in agreement. I've tried lots of different pups and whilst i love the vintage ones i think the QP's were the best.. for my needs.

In fact i'm putting a QP back in the CIJ so if anybody (UK only) is interested in a blk JB Jr pm me.
