My New HH is messing with me.....

So, for no good reason I can recall other than I really like the way it played, I bought a Jaguar HH about two months ago.

So far it has been a really fun guitar to play around with, but I am pretty sure it is messing with me. Everytime I pick it up it is out of tune. I will tune it, play it, tune it, put it away and when I go to pick it up the next day (usually when I get home from work to blow off steam) it is out of tune again. Does this happen to anyone else?

Other than that it is an awsome guitar. I still need to futz with the bridge since low E is buzzing a little but still I am having a good time with it.

Also, does anyone know if I can fit one of those old mutes that the originals have? or has my hardtail closed me off from that? If I can, where can I get one?

No, you cant fit a mute with the TOM.

Firstly, without sounding patronising are you stringing the guitar up right?

Three wraps aropund the machine head post (without overlapping) should be enough. Then 'stretch' the strings in a little. If not...

My Toronado was like your HH for going out of tune. I blamed the machine heads and replaced them with Grovers BUT.. when i was in the process i noticed the nuts on the machine heads were quite loose so the whole machine head could move either way about 1mm (Toronado machine heads do not have an additional screw holding tyhem in place on the back of headstock).

If i remember rightly HH heads are different but it still may be worth you checking each nut just in case.

I haven't restrung the guitar since I took it out of the fender box (I bought it new). It didn't occur to me to check if it was built correctly. I'll check that and the machine heads when I get home.

Can I change out the HH bridge for a mustang bridge? I have heard that fixes a lot of buzz problems.

Wrong guitar entirely. The HH has the TOM/ hardtail configuration, the mustang bridge will only work on regular Jaguars with a trem etc. Same as the mute.

so does that mean I can use a gibson TOM unit in the jag instead? To be honest this is my first TOM guitar (all my other electrics have Floyd Rose trem setups).

gibson one will be fine. you shouldnt need to replace it though.

ok, another stupid question - aside from the bridge and trem is there anything that is significantly different between a jag HH and a RI jazzmaster.

Theres #### loads of difference. two different models, and the HH is even more different from regular jaguar.

JM has soapbar pups

HH has humbuckers

JM is 25.5" scale

HH is 24"

JM has rounder radius

HH has flatter radius

besides the rhythm circuit the electronics are comlpletely different.

The wood could be different, the JM minus the burst ones are basswood and i have no idea about the HH.

Completely different. theres more differences than that, like the trem that adds a lot to the jag/jazz sound.

Thanks, I had no idea. I have never seen a jazzmaster in person (or if I did I dndn't notice) let alone held or played one so that is a real insight.

Well i have two HHs and neither have given me any trouble with tuning or buzz. Maybe you just need a setup for the buzz. Whenever i put on new strings i do the snap thing where you pull the string from the middle and snap it back a few times. That usually does it.

i replaced the chrome knobs with black plastic Jazz ones and i'm going to get some coil-tapping fitted for some Jaggier sounds (but i do love having humbuckers and particularly a stop bridge - trems are 🤮 to me )

And my HH Baritone superficially looks more like a Jazzmaster than the regular HH, but is still miles away.
