I am pretty sure you can go one way but not the other. I know from my airbrushing days that it will crack and craze but I can't for the life of me remember for sure if it is enamel over laquer or laquer over enamel.
From the depths of my fuzzy memory it goes Laquer, Enamel, Acrylic meaning you can paint over laquer with both enamel and acrylic but you can't paint laquer over either enamel or acrylic. you can't shoot anything over acrylic laquer.
now as I understand it between the nitro and the poly on the AV jag/jazz is a clear primer/sealer coat that is friendly to the laquer and protectant to the poly.
As near as I can figure they do it this way not for any tone, but so they you can get the look of laquer. Laquer has very few solids in the paint so it is really thin. It takes a lot of coats for good coverage and usually they need to be sanded in between. As a finish it can be buffed to a jewel like luster and finish. Laquer jobs are really beautiful when done right.
poly enamels have high solids and usually have the consistency of runny ice cream before being sprayed. they usually have to be thinned to avoid spraying orange peel and runny sections, but you only need one or two coats to get good coverage.
Personally I am interested in seeing how my all nitro jagstang is going to come out. I don't expect any real gain in resonance but I really want that beautiful all alquer finish and don't want to mess with sealers.
