PC Recording problems!

OK, I'm trying to record using my PC, I've never really done it before, just knew I had the software, I'm having a big problem, everything I record also records the click track or any other sound coming from my PC for that matter.

It's not a "Retard, turn your speakers off" thing because I'm DIing into the line in, not using a mic. I think this is the problem:

It's always set to Stereo Mix, but it won't let me slect anything else, nomatter what. Any suggestions?

can you reduce the volume of the stereo mix fader to zero?

Are your headphones pulled into the PC or a jack on the speakers?

I can pull the sterio mix level to zero but then it doesn't record anything. The headphones are plugged into the speakers.

click on options then properties then make it look like this

Tried that, makes no difference other than that the Stereo Mix fade becomes invisible. 😕

iam stumpted then mate .. have you got skype on your pc ? or msn they both mess with your sound a bit.

Never heared of Skype but I do have MSN Messenger 7.5, yes, which has also given me problems by insisting my TV card is infact a webcam which it's bloody not and never could be! Hmm, I don't really want to uninstall MSN messenger, any suggestions?

it may be a problem with the settings in msn for when you use the live talk thing i forget what its called(when you talk into a mic and the other guy can hear you) so if you check the settings there might help but i dunno. 😕

Nope, tried that too 😕, I'm totally stumped for ideas, I want to mess around and try things out, maybe even record a song, but alas, I can't do jack sh*t at the moment ☹.

acids all i know out of those programs and i have spent time trying to look up how too change any options there but iam at a loss 😕 sorry i havnt been much help dude 😢

Plug the headphones into the computer, not the speakers, same thing happens if I plug into my speakers.

MSN just detects any video capture device, a tv card is just that,hence why it detects that. If you plug a camcorder into your tv card you have a webcam,so msn is really correct!

Anyway in regards to your audio problem, what setup are you using exactly? How are you connecting the guitar to PC? I assume your not just trying to plug the guitar straight into your soundcard? That is never going to work, you need something like an effects pedal with headphone out and plug that into your pc,or even a pre-amp out from a amp, a mic input on a soudcard will not pickup a signal straight from a guitar.

Nah, I'm running the guitar through a Korg AX1500G Multi effects unit, then running from the headphones port to the PCs line in, the problem isn't the computer not recording the guitar, that's working fine, it's just that it's ALSO recording any other sound playing on my PC, like the click track, drum part, whatever.
