Jagstang Neck Specs Question

I love the neck on my Jagstang, it's pretty much why I bought the guitar. I was thinking of starting a new project guitar, and I'd like to "mimic" the neck shape on a full scale (think Strat or Tele), but finding out what the measurements of the JS neck are is proving tough.

Things I think I know:

7.25" Fingerboard Radius

1 9/16" Nut Width

What is the neck back contour considered? The 1 9/16" nut width is from info I found here, but when I go over to Warmouth to look around, 1 5/8 is a small as I've found. Heel width? Any other constructive info? Is there something else I'm missing - I.e. will the longer scale mess something else up?

As far as I know they are supossed to be the same as a CBS mustang, but hey what do I know I am the new guy.

Haha, maybe not.

I guess I'm leading a pretty sheltered life, cause it seems like I've never played a Fender neck like the JS one. I think I found some Warmouth and All Parts necks that are strat scale but 7 1/4 radius. Maybe that's the ticket.

It's not the radius that gives it the feel, the 7.25 radius is the jagstang necks downfall. The best you could hope for is finding someone who will do you a 24.75 inch scale neck, with a 12 inch radius, and the mustang profile.

If you have a JS neck it should not be too hard to get the measurements.

Radius 7.25"

Nutwidth 1 5/8"

You already know. Then get one of these:

Measure thickness at 1st fret and 12th fret. The difference between the two

is called taper usually 0.65-0.70"

Then take some soldering iron and put it around the back of the neck at the 1st

fret, from upper fretboard edge to lower fretboard edge. Then trace it on a

piece of paper, my guess would be a C-shape.

how so? would you consider is the downfall of the mustang and jag as well?

according to Fender:

Neck Width at Nut: ----- 1.5625" (39.68 mm)

The smaller the radius of a neck, the more curved the fretboard is, so it's harder to bend notes without the string fretting out on you. It's not so bad if you're a straight up punk rhythm player, but if you play leads with plenty of bends and have played a Les-Paul, you'll know how different it is.

It's funny you mentioned that, I wanted a "humbucker" guitar, and I played a shop full of Gibson/Epiphones, and I hated the neck on every one of them. They sounded nice, but I didn't like to play them - that's why I bought the JS to start with. 😁

They're not for everyone.

The freak says he hates Gibson necks too, of course it's always your opinion of what feels good and what your hands will allow you play.

is it just me or does the low e on the neck seem to close to the edge?

thats the nut and bridge, not the neck
