On a more serious point, i believe the pickup placement is partly the reason for the JS having a fairly 'muddy' sound.
The angled 'bucker means the lower strings will sound duller than usual, obviously the closer to the neck you go with placement the less brightness you get from a pickup. Guitars like LP Juniors that have the pup nearly sat on the bridge are very bright.
