Maybe I will eventually once I decide on something to get, I don't have any more room for new gear especially stuff I'd want out that I could use.

This is my new Jag. There wasn't any choice, so I got the Candy Apple Red with a white scratchplate.

But getting it home I thought it looked way too squeaky clean you know? I couldn't wait to buy a replacement scratchplate and I wanted something different so I looked around for the nearest substitute... which seemed to be a piece of my record collection. (Stereolab's 98 album 'Dots and Loops' for all you vinyl fans).

Its not as gorgeous as some of the jags on this thread, but its mine! Has anyone else seen a scratchplate made from a record?

i used to have a couple overly scratched coloured vinyl 12"s from sonic youth & henry rollins, so i thought about doing that, too, good to see that it actually looks soo cool!

(so where did i put the records?)

It really wasn't difficult, just needed a bit of care. I used a sharp knife heated on a candle but the vinyl was still quite tough. For the screw holes I heated a nail and stuck it though. Then I sanded it around the edges.

I could have also found a better matching record, but there's a pleasure in using what ever is at hand. And now I like the garishness of it.

Vinyl is quite brittle, more so than pickguard material.

Aaah, makes sense. Also you can get a countersink too (not that he did I don't think)
