anybody here own one and had to raise the action to get it to sound half ass decent?

For me the sound comes from the pick ups, not the action, so i am changing the pups on mine - the stocks are OK but nothing inspiring. Mind you i'm not into extreme low action anyway if that's what you're after. i prefer to work my fingers than have any string buzz.

You supposedly get better sound from higher action due to the string having more room to oscillate but yeah...

My HH sounded like sh ite, thats why i put DiM singles in it then thought WTF and sold it. In hindsight i should've saved a bit of money and installed some decent buckers.

i prefer a higher action that most cuz you get more presence and responce out of your playing, most people are so concerned with having the action really low that you lose alot of deffinition in your playing.

generally when i do work for people (setups) i like to ask them how they play and what they prefer. this fellow eric barr who is a local open mic guru loves his action really high, but then his lead guitar player wants his action as low as it will possibly go.

Most lead players prefer low action, it aids fast movement. I hat high action to be honest.

well i didnt have the guitar for a week and swapped for a JB in the bridge, but i quit playing it for like 3 months because of how sloppy and treble the guitar sounded. i raised the bridge maybe an 1/8 inch and adjusted the pickup to correspond, and the guitar just came to life. i pretty much put the action at where my mustangs, and jagstang is set.

I prefer low action, even if I'm not playing lead. I just don't like the extra effort that's not needed. Soundwise it's not that big of a deal.

picked up a pearloid pickguard for the HH from dazbootman today, and a set of Mustang knobs from guitars parts resource. make it look a little bit more like a regular Jag.

Pictures? and the HH's stock chrome knobs are gross, but tele knobs look nice IMO

I sold both Jagstangs both Jaguars both Strats etc etc. I don't play at all. I've got a beat up Stagg at my grandmum's house. It's not even beat up from playing, it's beat up from being in a trunk for 10 months.

Incidently, it has mega high action. It's like playing on an acoustic. I keep saying I'm going to tinker with it and try to make it playable, just for strumming. But then I'll want to get an amp again, then I'll want to get a decent guitar again, etc etc. It's just not worth it. My wrists are shot.
