as far as a guitar to play goes, definately the AV jaguar. any 60's jaguar is going to cost more, obviously. i've got a '62 jaguar, but i think the AV sounds much more even and full. old one sounds very harsh and thrashy. and AV is new, instead of having fretwear etc.
now if you're buying it as some sort of collectors piece, then a jaguar dated before '64 or '65 is nice. and so is a block and binding jag too. some people also like the acrylic finish, big headstock late 60's/70's jags. you can certainly get those for less than early to mid 60's ones
