Neck/Bridge Pickups

Hi....ok....my S/H Jaguar's up and running....sounds great through all

of my amps....Marshall ValveState/Yamaha Budokan and my little

Boss GS-10.....sounds very retro drenched in Reverb + Delay BUT...when I switch from bridge to neck or switch to the rhythm circuit....the tonality is dead as

a doornail.....absolutely no top end. I'm wondering if I need to replace the Pickups

or do I need to have a look at the resistors/capacitors etc that are part of the

wiring. Will changing values to these make a difference?....or should I just spring for a couple of new PUPS? If YES....what kind should I go for?.....any suggestions?

The rythym circuit has a cap in there to take the highs off the sound. If you remove it it will just sound the same as the neck pickup selected via the lead circuit.

I hate the stock bridge pickup and would definitely upgrade that one, i think the neck is okay.

What you go for depends on what music you play?

Antiquities are the closest to get the traditional Jaguar sound at its best but if you use high gain you may want to consider a seymour duncan quarter pound for Jaguar in the bridge position.

Sounds good, the last one was the rythym circuit was'nt it?

For clean playing the stock set up is as good as most other guitars really, it would obviously improve things to put more expensive pickups in there but it is'nt that necessary (for clean playing).

If you go on the seymour duncan website there are sound samples of the Jaguar pickups and on the webrocker Jaguar website there are sound samples of vintage and CIJ Jaguars. If you give them a listen it may help you decide if a pickup change is worthwhile to you.

The common complaints with Jaguars begin when you start to use gain/distortion. The pickups are'nt wax potted so microphonic feedback becomes a problem especially on the bridge pickup.

If you feel the rythym circuit is useless to you you could try different value caps or even onboard micro FX.

Hi Fran....No...the last one was the Neck PU by itself....thanks for the tips....the bridge PU is ok in my book....overall I'm getting a bit iof Hum + Noise but I may be able to kill that....the other configs suck big time....meaning neck + neck w bridge....after reading your suggestion regarding changing the Neck Cap.....I'm thinking about taking it out all together and starting from there. What do you think? Good idea or what? One question....where is the neck Cap....near the Neck PU or under the switch plate? I've never done this before but one has to start somewhere eh? I would've thought that the component was a resistor...you know....to resist current flow...

hi....thanks for that.....I'll check it out......do you know what values

they come in.....I'm assuming that 0 is bypass....50 is what's there now

maybe a 25 is a good starting point eh? Is that how it works?

You will get hum with single coils, especially if you are near something like a PC.

If you take the cap out altogether it will just give you the same sound as the neck pickup selected on the lead circuit.. so to me that seems a bit pointless. Although i'm considering doing it then taping over the lead circuit and just using the top switch because i nearly ripped my hand open on them switches at sundays gig.

I could'nt tell you much about cap values, someone like robert or spitfire will know more.

The cap is under the top chrome control plate connected to the tone pot.
