I guess I will start off with what I basically already have or have decided on.

1. New Japanese Jazzmaster body

3. Lindy Fralin pickups- custom wound pretty hot (http://www.fralinpickups.com/jazzmaster.asp)

4. Custom aluminum neck from Electrical Guitar Company (http://www.electricalguitarcompany.com)

5. Jazzmaster bridge with replacement Graph Tech saddles

Now I have a couple of questions. Why are the AVRI tremolos better than the MIJ equivalents? Are the two interchangeable? Does anyone have a source for black pickup covers?

MIJ and AV trems are not the same, and not interchanglable. if your going to be using the trem get an AV one, its more expensive but better. GRguitars.com has black covers too

So, you can put an AVRI tremolo assembly into a MIJ body?

I think you could. At worst the screw holes might not line up but that is no big deal.

The pickups sound great. They are not as hot as the monster tone pickups in my Schecter strat but they hotter than the ones in my 64' Jazz. I am not really sure how useful that comparison is? I thought it was going to be wierd playing on an aluminum fretboard but it is not. I don't even notice the difference between that and wood necks. What you do notice is the difference in the weight of the neck!
