today i swapped out the stock 250k pots for DiMarzio 500k pots and a new .022 orange drop cap on my mustang with a hot rails in the bridge and all i can say is, wow.

It sounds soooo much more full, and the treble comes thru much better.

If anyone has a similar set up with 250k's i 100% recommend you do this mod, you wont look back

Well, I believe 500k is the standard pot for guitars with humbucker pickups.

So, thats the way Hot Rails should actually sound.

I've used DiMarzio pots and haven't had very good luck with quality control. I'm glad things worked out for you.

The HH Jag is a bad set of affairs on the electronics side of things i'm afraid. I'd recommended any owner totally gutting it and starting back from scratch.

remember them and thinking why would they put 250k s in a guitar with humbuckers

...wierd mayber your guitar is retarted or im not remembering correctly. I am pretty sure that they said 1MA or something, which is why i remember it - i found out this disinguished that they were audio taper. Also, i know that the rythim circuit had a 1M linear and a 50k pot... you should email fender or something and ask if they'll repair yyours or something... with 1M pots, you could still get every tone you do out of 250k

i bought mine used, i guess my friend took out the 500s and switched them with 250s, but still its strange

they should be stock 1M that is 1000k on the lead circuit. the tone of the rythim is 50k. but yea, these guitars are trebly and i can see why someone would replace the pots, although i like that it makes lots of different noises.

how so? the jag hh (not the new MIM one) is the exact same as the original circuit wise. Although the switches are lower quality, it doesnt affect tone

For starters the pots are the wrong value and the pickups are complete garbage. I dont know why Fender did'nt do a proper job on the HH like they did by fitting Seymour Duncan 'Pearly Gates' and '59 neck' in the GT Toronados.

Considering the stock humbuckers are more like high output single coils i'd say they are the wrong value. The whole electronic design is hit and miss. There is no clear direction with the electronics on the stock model - it needs gutting and starting from scratch. Unless you want to mask the whole thing using EQ and Multi-FX, but through a quality valve head the guitar has no character and is a huge disappointment considering how good it looks.

Why you so against humbuckers nietz?

I like both but i will say a classy PAF hunbucker is a hard sound to beat.

the pots are 1M... for a jag, that is the correct value. what would you have them be? cant argue about the humbuckers though, i think im gonna go for a p-rails in the neck and a steve's special in the bridge

They are 1M on a normal Jaguar and they changed them from 250k to 1M on the Jazzmaster specifically to get that bright 'Surfy' sound.

I agree with Nietz.. any humbucker loaded guitar is better off with 500k pots. Look at Gibson, i think they have been doing it long enough to know what works best.
