Non-standard tunings

I know Blane just posted a good one, DADDAD tuning but here is a few more I tried and what i think of them:

- Db ADGBE : Just tried it then, it gives you that tiny bit more variety when switching between powerchords, very dissonant but kool. Sound great with wierd chords.

- Open "E" : Great for slide guitar, very bright and bluesy

- Open "G" : Even brighter again but has a warmer sound to it

- DADBGD (Double Drop-D): Not amazing but gives a better range for soloing

- EADBGD: Much like standard but with the the option of a few lower notes on the high E string (lol this is Gary Moore's favourite tuning)

- AADBGE or "Drop A": Very heavy and rumbles heaps but sound like poo if you hit it too hard, giving terrible fret buzz. Sounds great with fuzzy distortion (think Foo Fighters "Stacked Actors")

Trying to think of more i tried but yeah thats it for now

i have a few that i use:

CACGCE- i use that one for bron-yr-aur

DADGBE- i use that for a cool acoustic song im writing

BBBGGG- i was just joking on that one, if someone actually uses it, tell me how it sounds

I've actually gone off alternate tunings for a bit. I prefer to just tune up or down. Usually down. I have my Dano in B at the moment with 13's.

yea...I do that too...

how do like the 13's? I usually use 11's, and just bought a set of 12's for later...

I use a capo every now and then. Are alternate tunings worth it? I've never really tried, but it seems that you could play the same notes in standard tuning?

Can anyone explain the need?(I'm serious, not being a d!ck)

Using alternate tunings allows you to use some chords that are either impossible, or near impossible to do in standard tuning. Also, they allow for different sounds in terms of open strings and open chords. I usually use them to get a more ambient sound... or because I just can't form the chord that I want in standard.

Other people use them because they're rubbish at guitar.

i think some smart pedal dude should make an alternative tunning pedal, just think, all you have to do is punch in the tuning you want and bam. but i don't think its too likly, would be cool tho

the only way to make that happen would be to have (for a six string) 6 seperate pickups (piezo, perhaps?) and a 7 connection line to the box so that each string could be transposed

The Variaxes can do that.
