Texas Special pickups

I'm thinking of getting a texas special for my neck pickup.......is there any difference besides the look of the telecaster one and the stratocaster one?

The looks are the same under the covers, the covers are obviously different as the Tele has that chrome cover. They are also VERY different pick-ups. The strat TX sp. (neck) has a 6.2K resistance and 2.4Henries inductance, while the Tele TX sp. (neck) has 9.5K resistance and 3.3Henries inductance. Well, OK, wtf does that mean in plain English?? The Tele is a much hotter pick-up that is voiced to give it a very powerful "twangy" tone. If you love the Tele sound and are after that "twang" voice, then go for it, but if your looking for more of the traditional "strat" sound but with a bit more "omph" under the hood, go w/ the Strat TX Sp. I'd say try to find a guitar equiped w/ both and contrast and compare.

thank you for the response. I like the idea of finding guitars with both pickups, and I may go about doing that.

though I may be leaning towards the telecaster tx special now that you've given me an explanation 😁

maybe strat neck, tele middle? outputs'll even out a bit. less quack and phase cancellations in positions 2 and 4 though, if you like that. if you want it back, you could problably actually put the tele pickup out of phase, and regain the quack.

Last I checked, they didn't make a Tele "middle" pickup... I am so with you about the idea of evening out the outputs though. You don't want too much drop off in power between your two pickups. Try to get a single coil that has an output somewhat close to your humbucker. I don't have a clue as to what the output of the stock JS HB is, but it can't be too far off from the vintage strat coil, as the drop off isn't that dramatic. If you havn't done so already, change out your HB for a more powerful one (like a duncan distortion or fender enforcer, a SD JB may be too weak) to be more of an output match for the Tele TX SP., if thats what you plan to do.

well strat neck pups fit the middle space, right? so if a tele pup'll fit in the neck, you could put a tele neck in a strat middle position. and because this would have as much phase cancelation when wired in parallel, you could put it out of phase for that "quack" in two pickup combos.

OK, I see where your coming from. See, I was automaticaly asssuming bridge/neck position w/o a middle as this is the JS forum. So, sorry for the misunderstanding. I was only responding under those assumptions. All square?
