Buying My First Jaguar.

Well I'm buying my first Jaguar, the Fender Special HH Jaguar to be more specific.

I'm kind of contemplative though, because I have heard mixed things about this guitar.

First off, I have to say that the Jaguar would have to be my favourite guitar. The shape of the body is amazing and the sunburst coulour is gorgeous. Though the only Jaguar((if you can call it one)) was the Black and Chrome Jag Fneder released a few years back, and personlly it sounded like garbage to me.

Anywhoo, I'm buying the Special HH becuase I was drawn to Kurt Cobain's Jag, it having dual humbuckers and all, which is why I would prefer the speciall HH. There has only been one guitar that I have actually played with single coil pups and liked the sound, and that is my Duo~Sonic, which is why I don't wat a Jag with single coils.

Any comments as to wheter I am buying a legit guitar or some "toy" guitar in beta testing?

Oh and I'm not worried about it being MIM.

its mij, and its a great guitar in every aspect except the pickups, theyre not great. also consider the new classic player ones.

he siad he played it and didn;t like it, so he is wanting to go with the mim versions.

presonally i have heard good things about the new mim modles but have never played one myself, i say you should go for it and write up a good review for the site.

So.... what kind of music do you play? That should decide on the model you choose.

Your Duo may have single coils but it aint a Jaguar and they are not similar. The Jaguar has a distinct voice, as does a Strat and Telecaster, yet they all use single coils.

i bought one of these guys a month or so ago, and i love it. i tend to play more acoustic, but when i do play electric i play all styles from clean jazz to jambandish stuff to a little bit of distortion, so i wanted something that would be more versatile. i find that i like the single-coils by themselves more than the humbuckers, or maybe a 50% blend of single/humbucker. kind of makes me wonder if i should have bought a jazzmaster. some of the features are a bit questionable, like the killswitch, which might as well be for decoration. the basscut is surprisingly useful though, as probably my favorite sound is just the clean neck pickup set on single coil, and my POS amp can't crank out very much low end. the craftmanship is just ok. the area where the fretboard meets the neck and where the dot inlays are on the side of the fretboard looks pretty messy--a lot of glue, etc. the price tag is a bit high, in my opinion $699 or so sounds about right for the non-sunburst models, but i would not say it is priced so high that i would not recommend it. this was my first jaguar too, and the short scale definitely takes some getting used to. all in all, a pretty guitar.

i love bending on jags. its easier with 11s than with 9's on strats.

I can't really pick a genre.

I usually don't play clean anything, I always use a chorus pedal for the non distortion stuff.

As for distortion stuff, I like it to be crisp and distinct.

I read with the Classic Player HH you can choose((don't quote me on this :/)) whether you want the humbuckers to sound like humbuckers or to give them a single coil sound.

yea, they have a gradual split with which you can blend between humbucker and single coil. but forget genre, whats your style? agressive pick attack, dynamic pick attack.... what tone are you looking for? do you do heavy metal palm mutes, david gilmour style leads, etc. etc.

Basically a clear crisp tone, like the lead guitae part in the pixies "Where Is My Mind?", I haven't palm muted since 2004 so thats not an issue, not really an aggressive picker, and I prefer the high end of the guitar rahter than the low.
