I replaced the classic buzzy Fender bridge into a fixed TOM that has roller guides. Now there is no need for a rocking bridge that won't stay in tune. The strings just roll across the slotted bearings when I use the trem. No more going out of tune.

So much better: Has anyone tried this type of solution?

no but it sounds like a winner, no more compromise between the two bridges.

in fact id meant to look them up a few days ago.

if mentioned that that would be ideal a few times, but i had one question: does the low E pop out? although even if it does, this shouldnt be a problem with a buzzstop

No, the grooves in the wheels are deep. The actual bridge I used was a Schaller. I have not had a problem with it but some people say the rollers move occasionally and mess with the string spacing. this is easy to readjust though. I like the adjustable height, string spacing and intonation. It has nice plating quality as well and doesn't look too radical compared to the original even though I prefer everything traditional.

With this bridge there is no buzz and therefore no need for a Buzz Stop.

P.S. I use a unique string setup 54,42,30,22,15,11 and have also been tempted to go to 12's on E string.

Ernie Ball makes a set like this that are called "Beefy Slinky". Some people don't like Ernie Ball but I like this string size for the jag (especially for short scale) and jazzmaster. It gives a fuller sound especially on the bass and even with these thicker strings they never bounce outta the rollers.

No changes in the routing, The spacing of the posts on the TOM are the same as a traditional buzz bridge.

The only thing about the heavier strings is, if your nut is file for a narrower gage it may need to be touched up. However, since original Jags and Jazzys were produced for 12's it may be you have to do nothing for the string change and like I said the bridge drops in.
