a couple of months ago i bought a mustang from ebay. from a guitar store in japan. i got the guitar took it too samash to get a set up. i bring it home and the low E buzzes, i'm a agressive strummer so i know that strings raddle when plucked too hard. but the mustang feels wierd. everything is original factory parts.

is there any upgrades i could get or have done?

pick-ups, bridges, tuners. anything to help me feel better about this guitar...

it's a really nice guitar, with a matching head-stock.. but something doesn't feel right about it.

i'm thinking about buying a mustang 65 reissued are those any good? i'm a big grunge player and kurt cobain fan. or i'm just looking for a quality mustang, something i can't seem to find.

if there's anyone that lives in new york city, can u recommend a guitar store that sells reissues or vintage mustangs.

thatd be the bridge i think. also theyre known for their lightness, which might be what makes it feel strange. check the faq for the buzzing issue

there .09's, but then again i have .09's on my strat, and there's no buzzing.

i would put .10's on them but i don't have any idea on how to shave the nut, since i'm not much of a do-it urself.

I'm not going back to the sam ash tech. i might as well go to guitarcenter and see how much new pick-ups are and tuners and stuff like that.

The tuners are white plastic, and one of the white heads actually fell off when i was traveling to a gig. so i'm going to replace those.

i think it is the bridge, some of those saddles with the springs are loose and some are tight, don't have any idea on how to fix a bridge.

i've looked at the warmoth bridges, will that help? because i have owned in the past 1966 slab bodies, 1972 competition and other MIJ and CIJ mustangs and they never felt wierd or had a buzz, but then again i got them second hand, and this Mustang is a 2008 model.

shortscales are meant to have heavier strings, so the 09s could be a factor. you could also try a tune-o-matic if you dont use the tremolo too much

one reason your strat doesn't have any buzzing is the fact that is 1 1/2 inches longer and a completely different bridge.

is it fret buzz or bridge buzz?

the warmoth bridge might help just becuz the re-issue saddles are smaller than the vintage saddles, and im pretty sure the warmoth saddles fit suggly on the bridge plate.

guitar center and sam ash are the worst places to get your guitar setup.

the only thing they will do is turn the truss rod(if it needs it or not) and polish it.

try typing in luthier/guitar tech in_______(your area)

you should be able to find a decent number of people that can offer a much greater service for probly about the same as you would pay at samash or guitar center.

supposedly you can dip the bridge in wax or jam paper between the saddles. also, while i would definetely use at least 10s on a 24" guitar, the low E is more important because thats what's buzzing. if you want 9's, find a set with a heavier bottom.

i'm gonna change the strings the next time i'm at guitarcenter, i'm might put a jb junior or a hotrail into the bridge then i have the change the pots to 500k right?

i'll see if i can find a luthier in my area. or i might just trash the mustang and buy another one. all i know is that i'm never wasting my time talking to the dudes at ishibashi ever again. 700 bucks later i gotta spend another 200 on upgrades and probably another 150 for the luthier. all because i wanted a custom mustang with a matching headstock....

theres no need for a luthier. you dont HAVE to change the pots, its a matter of preference. but yea, this doesnt sound like the guitar for you.

it's a great guitar, but i just feel i can get so much more out of it. i'm gonna hold onto this guitar and see what i can do with it.

i can't sell it, i would never get the amount that i paid for.

when i went to guitarcenter a couple of weeks ago i fell in love with the 65 reissued.

i'm also looking at the HH classic players jaguar, or if i happen to strike gold on ebay.
