B.C. Rich was not always a "metal guitar", they were very new wave when they came out....
- Elliot Easton of The Cars used a Mockingbird on the first Cars tour on occasion
- Ric Ocasek of The Cars used a 10 string B.C. Rich Surpreme on a lot of the early songs
- Neil Gerardo of Pat Benatar's band used Bich and Supreme models in the early 80's
- George Kooymans of Golden Earring has used Surpreme, Bich, and Warlocks since the early 80's
Originally they were maligned by artists because they had too many switches and knobs. That went away after the 70's ended, as did the whole 10-string guitar design. Kooymans of Golden Earring actually had all the electronics in his Surpreme removed and replaced with a boost circuit and basic controls. They were sort of like the Vees and Explorers of the late 70's/early 80's (as well as the Dean guitars), they slowly caught on with people you would not expect at first, and due to their funky shape, sort of got pushed into the Metal Department with Jackson/Charvel and so fourth.
Anyway, enough of my hijacking, just amuses me not much is said about the pre-metal years of B.C. Rich.
