Bound Necks

What is really the difference between a neck with a binding and a neck without? It just looks so much nicer with the binding, and it also looks much easier to play on (for me atleast). Did that give any sense?

I'm especially thinking of the Jaguar necks, and would it be easy to buy a CIJ/MIM Jag and replace the neck with a bound one?

it's just the looks. and i think it'll fit fine, depending on where are you going to get it. personally i like the neck binding too, BUT without the block inlays. and binding + dots have only been done in 65 i think.

bindings/dots were done from mid to late 65 to early to mid 66. the only difference si on the rosewood jaguar fret boards there is white plastic put around the edge. i cant say if it will play better, i think it would play the same honestly. and if you can get a hold of on with the same neck pocket it would be easy as #### to put it on the jag

So what you mean is that there isn't any difference in playability with binding at all? If it's only for the looks I guess I can pass this one even though it looks good with a bound neck. Also, if I had wanted one, what necks would've fit into a MIM HH Jag?

any shortscale vintage neck. duosonic music master mustang bronco jaguar etc. only jaguars came with binding/dots and and bindings/blocks. and when there on ebay separately, there very expensive. usacg makes custom necks that can be made shortscale too

yes. it would need refinished and i believe it would cost a lot, but i know its possible. talk to your tech if your serious about it

I don't know, you cut the binding routes before you radius the fretboard, so unless there's some trick to it (maybe Aug knows a way), it would be difficult to add it in after.

i knowits possible. i saw a link to someone doing it at SS. he didnt use a router, it was some weird tool.

EDIT- i couldnt find it ☹ sorry. but trust me that it is possible. i dunno how cost efficient it is, but if you really want bindings on it take it to a tech and figure something out with them

It seems like a lot of trouble. Maybe I'll just put white out on my Jag's neck. 😆
