Can nayone help me with a few trem queries?
I dunno if i'm being thick but how does the tremelo lock work? The little slidy button thing on my Jag does absolutely nothing! The only way i can lock the trem is to tighten the trem right up using the adjustable screw.
Also my trem arm always flops about loosely. Is there a way to keep it in a set position? I'm sure it never used to be so loose.
Finally, when i do use the trem i got an horrendous metallic rattling sound that overpowers the actual music. It's clearly the metal parts of the trem mechanism hitting each other. Should there be a rubber washer or anything anywhere to stop this?
Thanks,
Ollie
Trem lock works, except it only prohibits upward movement, I just tightened mine out of the way so it don't work, but then I tightened the spring as far as it could go to dive bomb notes. Yours might just be mis-adjusted, the trem is centered in a certain way so then if you break a string and push down the bar it locks the tremelo in place.
The trem arm just needs the collet teeth tightened, or your arm may just be worn like mine is (as I move my bar around a LOT when I play), eventually the metal on metal contact of the bar with the collet teeth. Be careful if you tighten the teeth though, as they can break off if you are not careful, a light touch with a pair of weak pliars is best.
As far as the noise, sounds like the trem is not centered, the rear lip (that thing the strings attach to) probably needs pushed down to it's centered position with about 1/2 cm between the lip and the tailpiece plate. The Jaguar tailpiece has a minor flaw in that it's designed in a way that the fulcrum area can be thrown off balance easily causing a myriad of noises, particularly during restringing.
