when i had my american i used 10's, completely stock, it came with a buzz stop but i took that off.

my strumming was medium-hard.

not death metal insane hard but i definitly played it.

slinky 10's, gonna try hybrids.

not a hard player, try to mic as much stuff as i can into my playing; power chords, complex note sequences, basic scale tremolo picking.

T-O-M on the KC jag and Mustang saddles on the MIJ.

10s on both of them with medium attack...sounds about right but needs a little lovin'

DR 12's -w/ dunlop nylon 1 mm picks---mustang bridge...depends on song, but i guess medium to hard

Depends which model? As a rule i dont.. but with the humbucker installed the 'sympathetic harmonics' are more audible. So i used a buzzstop on that particular Jag to break the distance of string from the bridge to the tail piece.

Strumming is very heavy..tremolo picking..with contradictory mix of finger-style and finger plucking,brushing,banging etc. I play sort of arty,ambient,bluesy,minimalist psycho folk music........

one question in relation to the bridge(I'm very confused and amaturish when it comes to the bridge)...my jag had an accident and the trem unit completely broke(spring snapped)...I couldn't fix it so I took the internals of the trem out and closed it up to remove that aspect of the guitar.Then the stock bridge literally fell apart so I replaced it with a TOM....I've now got a replacement tremolo unit and I gonna put it in the Jag soon.......will the TOM affect the tremolo working properly as I've been told that the stock bridge complements the trem as it's a rocker bridge...my source isn't trust-worthy so I'm not sure...sorry if it sounds stupid...any help would be good...Thanks....

I had a Jazzmaster with a stock bridge and "regular slinky" (10-46) strings, once.

With my current Jaguar, I used to play with the stock bridge and "heavy bottom" strings-(with the first three strings like from a set of 10`s and the lower three strings like from a set of 11`s).

Now I use a Mustang bridge and a set of "power slinky" 11`s

My playing is mostly a lot of furious fingerpicking:

i dont use trem much. occasionally some on my strat for making trippy noise with feedback and ####, but then its 10-52, medium strumming

I voted mustang bridge. I've been through all the typical configurations: stock, stock w/ buzzstop, mustang, mustang w/ buzzstop, and the Mustang bridge by itself is by far the best way to go for me. It keeps the signature JM/Jag sound by allowing the strings to reverberate behind the bridge, and is much lower maintenance and sturdy than the stock bridge. It also is plenty adjustable as you can raise the action with the bridge post screws.

I use Dunlop Tortex greens, .11 GHS Burnished Nickel Roundwounds, and play rock/ heavy rock/ alternative, and strum pretty smoothly but get aggressive regularly. Hope that helps.
