Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder - Q's regarding

Didn't know whether to place this in the jag section or here... but yeah it's to do with a jag with an SD Quarter Pounder fitted to the bridge.

I changed from the stock pickup hoping to remove microphonic feedback... but this isn't the case... still evident on occasions on high tone settings and high gain... at reasonable volumes... I was hoping it would be able to handle this...

so my question is : are these pickups already wax potted from stock ? and would I gain any benefit from wax potting again whatever the answer ?

I've also heard about about lacquering pickups... is this from the spray can lacquer ?

Basically would like to deal with this issue... I've also been recommended to stuff tissue in and around the pickup... somethin' you would recommend ?? Is the jaguar claw causing a prob perhaps ??

I've done some reading, but would like to get some info and discuss here where there is some knowledge of fenders and jags etc...

any help would be appreciated...

Bear in mine that these are still single coils and will make some unwanted noise at high gain: what you interpret as microphonic might just be squealy feedback. I imagine the quarter pounders would be potted but not sure. First things first, check under the tremolo plate to see if the ground (black wire, if its a CIJ it will be taped to the inside of the cavity with bare wire bent over the top so it makes contact with the plate)is acctually connected: it could just be as simple as that.

I'm 99% sure they are potted. Spraying lacquer would not achieve anything as microphonic feedback is caused by small cavitys in the windings/bobbin, wax fills these cavitys.

This is the battle with the Jaguar, i'm quite a heavy guitar player myself and have tried everything. The thing is the guitar was not designed with high gain in mind.

Fuzz pedals work better with single coils, straight Distortion causes problems. You could also try Multi-FX and control things with a 'Gate' effect.

As for Pickups if you want better results without a lot of hassle try the single coil size humbucker range. Seymour Duncan do a JB Jr, Hotrails, etc. But imo they are not like the real thing.

I specifically bought my Burgundy Mist Jaguar to route for a bridge humbucker because i did not want to ruin my AV or sunburst models.

there are some decent noise gates about, boss noise supproessor and the MXR smart gate(?) are a couple of note, plus apparently the rocktron model is a diamond in the rough. I don't know why jaguars are so picky with stuff like that, as the pickups are essentially the same design as a strat. I use a jazzmaster and don't have any/many problems with high gain either. Perhaps trade in for one of the new mexican humbucking ones?

i cant stand the boss noise supressor. loss of volume, not working when stuff gets too hissy (hissy enough to warrant a noise supressor)

Going back to the noise gate pedals ... that wouldn't prohibit microphonic feedback would it ?

O.k... I've removed the claw and that has completely rectified the problem it seems... 😀

The short silver wire that I de-soldered from the claw... can that be left hanging or does it need to be reconnect elsewhere ?
