The japanese during the 70's and early 80's were in what we now call the "Lawsuit" phase, and a LOT of those "lawsuit" guitars such as your ibanez (the two biggest ones are the Les Pauls, and the Explorer called the Ibanez Destroyer) are getting more sought after year after year. The Tokai strats are another well sought after Japanese model, as is indeed the Yamaha SG2000 series (they were very popular in the early 80's with the more pop-ish new wave bands).
The reason they are called "Lawsuit" era is because the big American manufactuerers, specifically Gibson and Fender, were freaking out at the accuracy and quality of the Japanese instruments coming out at the time. The Tokai strat and Ibanez Destroyer are the two most common examples, but the Japanese copied pretty much everything to a T at one point.
I should probably dig into the pics I cropped out of a certain guitar catalog site that charges for you to see the catalogs, I found some nifty lawsuit era Mustangs and Jaguars/Jazzmasters made by Greco, Fernandez, and ESP. Greco got the Jazzmaster and Jaguar SPOT ON, as did Fernandez with the GMT-65 mustang copy, and ESP's apparently short-lived Mustang Kits from around 1983-1984ish.
