Treble cap mod

As I mentioned in a previous post I was toying with the idea of doing this especially to the Rhytmn bout as I didn't like the drop in treble as the volume went down on my HH. Went and got some .001 and .002 caps today cost pence really and fitted a .001 onto the rythmn bout took seconds to do and what a change, now the treble is there with the volume down, great for chord parts whilst singing, the reason I bought the Jag in the first place. I am contemplating doing it to the lead bout as well, but as I use it for lead its always up full anyway. Anyway excellent mod for the HH IMHO

So you removed the cap and fitted a .001? Nice one. A lot less hassle than swapping pots, may try it myself.

you could bypass the tone, so you get all of the treble.

No, I added a .001 on the volume pot between the middle lug and the left hand (ground I think) lug

that shouldnt make much difference since theres no treble on the rythm bout to begin with... unless you disconnected the tone pot???

Wel it has cured the treble drop as the volume is turned down on the rhytmn bout, I have left the lead bout as standard.

I may have described the mod incorrectly, but its the standard treble bleed as you outlined elsewhere, middle lug and the non- grounded lug just checked the wiring diagram, that's right ?

I don't understand what you mean when you say "there's no treble on the rhytmn bout to begin with"

Ah I see what you mean. Yes it is muddy, but with all the controls on full, to my mind it has a lovely warm sound, with a nice edge, this was lost when I turned down more than 25% and it just turned to mud, as you say, but the mod has stopped that and I can now use it nicely for rythmn and turn up for solos. Used at a Blues jam last night and it works much better now.

How have you got round the muddieness problem?

i disconnected the rythm bout all together. i use the switch for series parallel, and the old volume pot for a bass control, so when the strangle is engaged, i can controll how much bass it cuts. also, the rythm tones were available on the lead bout with the tone knob... wasnt doing much for me.

Interesting, The strangle switch does little for me and I have thought about changing it into a series parallel switch or a coil tap. Dont know how to do eithr though! How does the series parallel affect the tone and/or coil tap is it worth it, I have a Gibson 347 with a coil tap which makes some difference, but I don't use it much though

with a jag hh(stoptail), the neck pickup sounds like a hot entry level single. the bridge pickup sounds like daggers being jammed in your ears. when im on the neck pickup, and i switch to series, with those two pickups, it acts like a frequency expander. theres more top end and more bottom end. its basically a fat, edgy sound. by the way, the bridge pickup is in series with the neck pickup, in an attempt to smooth the top end out. my humbucker from hell will be here next week, and it might not interact well with the bees nest that is the bridge pickup....
