As far as details go, I am a pretty basic kind of person, who has yet to really find my own sound. Colour wouldn't bother me in the slightest as long as the guitar plays well and sounds good.
As far as pups go, I would most likely be sticking with the classic SSS config. Goin this way would also make my selection easier, as it seems that most Squier strats use this setup.
Other considerations are a good neck (satin or light gloss finish preferably, too much finish and my hand sticks), a vibrato system that actually stays in tune, and solid reliability. I am not really capable of doing my own mods and repairs on a guitar. As I have said in other posts, I know NOTHING about electronics.
So in summary, classic config, relaible, good neck are my main desires.
