SD-1, DS-1 or OS-2?

Ok, so I already have a Big Muff Pi, which is amazing for the stuff that I'm playing right now, but I'm looking for something a bit less.... Rrraoaaaaooorrrr... if you know what I mean... 😀

Its mainly to give me a bit more distortion/overdrive variety on my board. I was looking at the SD-1, the DS-1 and the OS-2 and just wondering what the pros and cons of each of them might be. I know you guys will know something about them, and as there is no Boss dealer in the area, I can't go try them ☹

I use two Big Muffs onstage and they work great with overdrive, especially together. So i recommend an Overdrive.

Most non expensive overdrives are based on the Ibanez Tubescreamers circuit so... there is'nt a lot of difference in sounds.

You could go for any of these;

Boss SD-1

Ibanez TS7

Digitech Bad Monkey

Dod 250

And have change out of 30 quid, they are all decent as well.

If you want more gain try..

Jekyl & Hyde

MXR Distortion +

Boss OS-2

Overall, value for moneywise i think the Marshall BB2 is a great pedal. It has two modes; Clean Boost and Overdrive. It covers most sounds up to light distortion.

You'll get one on ebay for 20 quid.

One thing is for sure, i would forget Boss DS-1.

I've been using the Boss OS-2 pedel for years now,hell I even have a backup just in case.I can get some really great distortion and pretty good overdrive with it,I also have a SD-1 and I really like it alot.I like to combine the OS-2 distortion with the SD-1 and I get some killer distortion from it.If it was me I would go for the OS-2.

Does'nt Joey Santiago from the Pixies use an OS-2? I know its the half and half pedal.

Thanks guys, thats quite a help. I might go for the OS-2. It sounds like a good pedal, but I'll consider the others too. The Digitech and the Ibanez look alright too.

cant speak to the os-2, but forget the ds-1. im very seriously considering an sd-1 because while being mediocre to okay pedals stock, you can spend under 5 dollars in parts to transform them to a ts (i wouldnt), a fulldrive, or a keeley. (there are others aswell)

Thats cool. I like the sound you get. I presume you have it turned pretty much to the distortion side of the colour?

Yup,I use it as a distortion pedel more than anything,plus I was using my Toronado.
