question for Jagmaster owners

Has anybody swapped in a single-coil pickup?

I am thinking of buying a Fender vintage noiseless and dropping it into the middle position, but I am VERY hesitant about the idea because it will require buying the pup, work by a luthier, adding new pots (unless it is wired into the existing volume and tone), adding a new pup selector (which I am thinking of doing anyway).

I guess I am asking if the end result is worth the $$$ that will be needed to make it happen.

Pup, pots, pup selector, and the work will probably set me back close to AUD$200.

its only worth the money if you want it. i think coil splits would be better and less expensive too

buy nice humbuckers first, and with splits, and then see if you still wanna do that.

Yeah I think splits would be right for me. I'm not a rich man, and the extra money I would be spending on all this surgery would not be wise expenditure for me.

you can get the sound your looking for with humbucker splitting. a lace sensor or some type of alnico II humbucker not wound too hot. pearly gates, alnico ii pro, etc.

Making the last payment on my Jagmaster tomorrow.

Putting it in for it's setup (string change, setting up the vibrato, adding a spring or two, action, intonation, adding that extra bit that goes around the outside of the humbuckers, usual stuff).

Hopefully I'll be bringing her home on Saturday, maybe even before 😁

edit: I will ask about coil splitting while I am in the area...

but that would be pointless on a jagmaster. why would anyone pay to have those one jagmaster?

the point of those is to keep the humbucker in place................ if they arent falling out, why install the 'bit'?

That 'thing' is what I meant. The guy at the shop today called it a ring.

The reason for wanting it there is purely cosmetic, I can't think of too many guitars humbucker pickups that don't have them installed. The pups on the Jagmaster just look a bit small and sad.

Too take up what tragictravisty said... why would that make a guitar look stupid? I think the Jagmaster looks worse without them than it would with them. The pups do move a little, but they sure aren't falling out, so yeah, the only reason I wanted them was to make the pickups look a little beefier.

I look stupid when I simply to try to play guitar, having a frame around my pickups won't make a lick of difference to my stupid-looking factor 😉

You only need a pickup ring with the humbucker if the guitar doesn't have a scratchplate that covers the pickups (e.g. Les Paul, ES-335).

Things like Jagmasters and Jag-Stangs don't need them as the scratchplate is there to keep the pickup in place.

That makes sense, actually, hence why Les Pauls, SG's and so on have them.

I'll ditch the idea, means I get to save more $$$ anyways 😉
