Jagmaster -> Jaguar/Jazzmaster

So I decided that my Jaguar days are way ahead of me and I'm going for a cheaper Jagmaster.

BUT

.. I'm thinking of slowly converting it into a more Jag/JM kind of being.

- I have already decided on the pickups, but I have heard that the pots play an important role as well. So the JM's pots are 1Megs, right? Is it also true on Jaguars? And would it somehow help if I had 1Megs on Jagmaster?

(i chose the pickups looking at the SD Jag ones, their Bass / Mids / Treble numbers and chose these: SD George Lynch Screamin Demon Humbucker on bridge and Seymour Duncan SH2N-4C BLK, Jazz Pickup for the neck. 😁 )

- Another thing is the bridge and the tailpiece. I was thinking of a random tune-o-matic bridge, since I don't feel like going through the trouble of finding an exact Jag/JM bridge. And there are those G

the body is 25.5 with a conversion 24 neck. so its extremely unique, no other neck would fit on it, but i think its a genius idea. 1M pots are on jaguars and would definitely help bring some brightness to the jagmaster. a trem conversion would take some wood working, since the strat trem has lots of routing in the back... im not knowledgable about changing from strat trems.

by the way if your after the classic jaguar tone get a good set of alnico II splittable humbuckers.

^ thanks! i think i'm gonna drop the tremolo/bridge/tailpiece idea then. and as for the neck.. well, at least it's 24". Then it's gonna be pickups and the pots.

/edit ook, but if they're splittable, shouldn't i get a 5-way switch or sth like that for it? but good advice "For brighter toned instruments." i like that. 😁

and as for the pots. should i consider Fender ones or some other? in thomann.de there are Fender TBX tone controls, which are 1megs. the other one is ALLPARTS CTS 1 MEGA OHM POTI.

every 1M pot for our purposes is the same. but for splits get 1m push-pulls. http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=619

buy from smallbear whenever possible. a 1M pot costs 8 dollars less than at stewmac.

What about P-94's for new pickups? Single coils in humbucker format. It's a shame that SD doesn't make any. Anyway this way I can avoid messing with the wiring, etc. + I bet they're better than split humbuckers. Or not, idk. Has anyone used P-94's ?

I've never used a P-94, but I am curious, because I will be looking to drop a single coil into a Jagmaster as well.

Who manufactures P-94's?

edit: never mind, I just took a look, should have known it was Gibson, by the P.

That pickup would fit the needs I have, but might be too high output, which would mean having to swap out the bridge pup as well (and, presumably, the pots). I'll keep mine stock for a while.

Good decision on the Jagmaster. I have a project waiting as well.

Firstly a Strat neck will fit it. I've spoken to three seperate people that confirm this, it will intonate fine. However a short scale neck wont. I tried a Bronco neck on mine and it was way out.

I'd go with the Jag trem personally, as i dislike Bigsbys. I planned to fit the trem just for vanity, not actually make it useable. Like John Squires Jazzuars.

Jags also use 1meg pots but if i where you i'd leave it as it is. Its a dated idea and imo they are way too trebly with single coils especially.

yea, its a 25.5" body, so a strat neck will be no problem.

Only just saw this, thought I'd resurrect the thread (although it's not really that old I guess).

p-94s SUCK! Awful pickups. The only person I've ever seen use them is that guy from The Strokes, I have no idea why he likes them so much 'cause I think that for a P90 they're awfully scratchy.

Seymour Duncan DO make a version of it, called the Phat Cat. They're actually pretty decent, my mate has one in the neck of his Les Paul. Very smooth, very clear.

Others you might want to look into include the Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen (expensive but well worth it), or any number of the Vintage Vibe 'bucker-sized singlecoils (one of which appears to be modelled after a Jazzmaster pickup).

They're rubbish, the one i fitted into a Gibson SG was anyway. Nowt like a proper P90.
