Ground wire to bridge cup?

Hey gang. Im in the process of modding my 69RI MIJ Mustang. When I was routing I took out the bridge cups with care, thinking the ground wire was soldered to it. Well it wasnt! It was just kind of touching by the cup being jammed in?? Is this normal? When I think of soldering it to the cup, I cant picture it cause its a tight fit. Cheers for any help.

Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for a coiltap (ie- buck/off/single) humbucker in the bridge? Thanks

I have a 'bucker in the bridge of my '69 RI, with a coil tap, and I could see about getting you a wiring diagram.

You don't need to solder or glue it to the post.

The hole the ferrel fits into is tight, so if you have about an inch and a half of ground wire going into the bottom of the hole, when you replace the ferrel, it'll have no choice but to touch the ground wire.

Thanks all. There was only about 5mm of exposed wire to the cup/ferrel so I'll make it longer like you said. Can't wait for the wiring diagram, cheers Pete.

ok, here's the diagram. It just shows what needs to be done with the switches, but that should be enough.
